Akro Scan

Terms of use

Updated 7 November 2026

Purpose

These terms govern the use of the Akro Scan iPhone app, published by ANTANA, a French SARL registered in Paris under number 751 818 865, 61 rue de Lyon, 75012 Paris, France. Using Akro Scan means you accept these terms.

What Akro Scan does

Akro Scan photographs paper documents, saves them as PDF files on your iPhone, lets you edit and send them, and lets you add a signature, initials, a name and a date drawn or entered by the user. Each time you sign, a "Signature certificate" page is added to the document.

Nature of the signature: read before signing

Akro Scan produces a simple electronic signature, within the meaning of European Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 ("eIDAS"). It is neither an advanced nor a qualified electronic signature.

  • Akro Scan does not verify the signer's identity: the name shown is the one entered in the app.
  • No signing certificate is issued and no trust service provider is involved.
  • The date and time come from the iPhone's clock. No qualified time stamp is applied.
  • Akro Scan keeps no copy of documents: there is no evidential archiving.

A simple electronic signature has legal effect: it cannot be rejected solely because it is electronic (Article 25 of eIDAS; Articles 1366 and 1367 of the French Civil Code). However, it does not benefit from the presumption of reliability reserved for qualified electronic signatures: if it is challenged, the party relying on it must prove its reliability, and the court assesses it freely.

Akro Scan is therefore not a signing service comparable to those of trust service providers. Do not use it for a deed that requires an advanced or qualified signature, a handwritten signature, a notarised deed, or any particular form required by law or by the other party. If in doubt, consult a legal professional.

Signature certificate

The certificate records facts captured by the app at signing time: the name entered, the iPhone's date and time, the pages signed, the IP address and the SHA-256 fingerprint of the document before signing. It does not certify the signer's identity.

The IP address is obtained from a third-party service (ipify). It may be missing or may not reflect the actual connection, for example behind a VPN, a relay or a corporate network. The fingerprint makes it possible to check that a document has not been altered, provided the original version is available.

Your commitments

  • Sign only on your own behalf, or with authority to sign for the person you represent.
  • Never sign in someone else's place.
  • Read the document before signing and sending it.
  • Keep your own copy of important documents.

Your documents and backups

Documents, signature and initials stay on your iPhone. ANTANA has no copy and cannot recover them. Deleting a document or the app erases them permanently, unless an iPhone backup managed by Apple contains them. Details are in the privacy policy.

Subscription

Akro Scan is used with a subscription, after a 7-day free trial, at the price of €0.99 per month shown on the App Store. Payment, automatic renewal, cancellation and refunds are handled by Apple under its own terms. You can cancel at any time in Settings, your name, Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid renewal.

Warranties and liability

Akro Scan is provided as is. ANTANA takes care that it works properly, but does not warrant that it is fit for any particular legal use or that a document signed with the app will be accepted by a third party or a court. To the extent permitted by law, ANTANA is not liable for the consequences of using the app contrary to these terms, in particular for a deed requiring a stronger signature than a simple electronic signature, nor for the loss of documents that were not backed up. These limits do not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

Intellectual property

The app, its name, icon and texts belong to ANTANA. The documents you scan and sign remain yours.

Changes to these terms

ANTANA may update these terms, in particular to follow changes to the app or the law. The version in force is the one published on this page, with its date.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by French law. For any question or complaint, write to us using the contact form. Failing an amicable agreement, the competent courts are those designated by law.
